PIT FIRING/SAGGAR WORKSHOP
The Pit Firing workshop is an experimentation exercise with an outdoor firing in barrels.
Minerals and organic materials are used to provide unexpected colors and textures on the final pieces.
During the first days we start by handbuilding the pieces with different techniques, to later prepare a slip called “Terra Sigillata” which gives a shiny finish to the pieces.
By the end of the workshop we will fire the pieces outdoors in barrels.
*The participant must have previous knowledge on handbuilding techniques.

DURATION:
6 sessions / 3hrs. per session.
ABOUT:
- The participant is free to use different handbuilding techniques with the instructors support.
- Preparation and application of “Terra Sigillata” and burnishing.
- The instructor will share information about materials and minerals required for coloring results on the pieces.
INCLUDES:
- Stoneware clay with thermal shock resistance (5kg).
- Tools, molds and banding wheel to use at the studio.
- All kinds of materials needed for the final firing. Minerals and organic materials (Like fruit peels etc), industrial materials among others.
