BARRO DE TICUL & OAXACA WORKSHOP




At the Ticul and Oaxaca workshop we will learn to recognize the traditional processes of local clay and it’s characteristics through the exploration of the materials and handbuilding techniques.

The main objective of the workshop is to promote and encourage the craftmanship and traditional techniques with local clay.


DURATION:
- 8 sessions / 3hrs. per session.
- 2 times a week.

*Morning Schedule:
Monday & Wednesday 10-1 pm
Tuesday & Thursday 10-1 pm

*Afternoon Schedule:
Monday & Wednesday 3-6 pm
Tuesday & Thursday 3-6 pm


OBJECTIVES:
- Learn the origin of the materials and prepare and process your own clay. 

- Building techniques, like coils, pinching, paddling and molds. 

- Use of the traditional local slip, known as “Kankab” and other finishes.


INCLUDES:

- Ticul clay (3kg), Oaxaca clay (5kg) and Kankab.

- Firing of the pieces made at the workshop.

- Handbuilding tools, molds and banding wheel for use at the studio.

- Asistance by instructor from the concept or idea to the end of every builded object.

- A trip to the “Ticul” community on the first class to learn from the instructor and the master artisan the traditional techniques and workspace.
